The Original Moon Maids Plus One

Curtain Call II: The Best Of The Big Band Era

Crooner Vaughn Monroe's back up female singing group, The Moon Maids, get together again to reprise Big Band standards on this CD. Three of the original Moon Maids  -  Mary Jo (Thomas) Grogan, Tinker (Cunningham) Rautenberg and June (Hiett) Bratone  -  all childhood friends from the Dallas, TX, area, sang with Monroe from 1946 to 1950. Rounding out the female quartet is Carol Piper, a veteran songtress with a number of big bands. Harrold Grogan (Mary Jo's husband), who sang with trumpeter Sonny Dunham's group, The Sonny Siders, in 1946, is also added as the "Plus One."

Smooth, tight harmony was the signature style of The Moon Maids, and remains so from these 1985 to 1987 recordings. Musicians on these tracks include offsprings from the Bratone's, the Grogan's, and the Piper's, making this CD a multi-generational project. Great listening!
